(ABC 6 News) -- UPDATE: In a statement, Rochester Police said that a 53-year-old man is being held at the Olmsted County Jail on 2 counts of 2nd-degree murder, in connection with a stabbing incident around 7:15 pm Saturday night.
Glenn Roger Johnson was arrested after that double fatal stabbing incident at Castleview Apartments in Rochester. In a press release sent out on Saturday night, police said that an officer arriving on the scene saw a male subject attempting to exit Castleview Apartments from a rear stairway. That man was brought to jail. Castleview Apartments is located at 120 N. Broadway Avenue.
According to wire reports (AP), Rochester police say the suspect was "definitely under the influence of alcohol" when he allegedly stabbed the two men at the Salvation Army building.
In the same wire report, Rochester police Capt. John Sherwin says the suspect had reportedly "bickered" with the victims "quite a bit."
Police also identified the victims as Phillip William Hicks, 57, of Rochester and Eric Alan Flemming, 45, also of Rochester. Police say both men were stabbed in the chest and upper abdomen.
According to Sherwin, all of the individuals involved are residents of Castleview Apartments.
Castleview Apartments is managed by the Salvation Army and according to their website it is a “permanent, supportive housing complex in Rochester for single adults who are low-income, chronically homeless or disabled.”
ABC 6 News reached out to Salvation Army officials Sunday morning and they told us that "This is a tragic situation and it is under investigation." The Salvation Army staff also said that she is "saddened to hear this has happened."
There are now four homicide deaths since the beginning of the year in Rochester. The first one claimed the life of a 17-year-old Rochester teen on January 14. Alexander Weiss is the suspected shooter. He is charged with 2nd-degree murder and has entered a not guilty plea. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on July 9.
The second homicide incident of the year took place only less than a week ago on Monday night, March 12, outside Hyland Apartments. A 40-year-old man, Ahmed Muafaq Abdulhu Al Naddf was fatally shot near his home on the 2800 block of Charles Court Northwest. Two people have officially been charged in connection with Monday’s deadly shooting.
Rochester Police in a press release sent out Saturday around 9:45 p.m. stated that at approximately 7:15 pm, Rochester Police officers responded to a report of a double stabbing at 120 N. Broadway, Castleview Apartments.
When officers arrived at the scene, police said they found two adult male victims on the fourth floor of the building suffering from critical stab wounds. Emergency crews administered life-saving measures. Both victims were transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys Campus where they were pronounced dead at around 8:00 pm.
The statement also mentioned that a police officer arriving on the scene saw a male subject attempting to exit Castleview Apartments from a rear stairway. That man has been detained and is believed to be the only suspect in this incident.
The names of the victims are in the process of being verified at this time. This is an active investigation and will remain so throughout the night.
