(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester police are still not sure if a medical condition was the reason why a man crashed into a utility pole Monday morning. According to Captain John Sherwin, the driver, 66-year-old Rodney Rustan of Rochester, later died.
Rochester police responded to two injury accidents on January 22, including one that happened around 8:35 a.m. Captain Sherwin said Rustan's Chevy Impala hit a utility pole on 41st Street NW near 16th Ave. and he was unresponsive when officers arrived. Officers used a defibrillator, said Captain Sherwin, and were able to get a pulse. Rustan was then transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus.
Tuesday morning, Captain Sherwin said they were notified that Rustan had died and an autopsy was scheduled for that day.
Rustan was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and the airbags did deploy, said Captain Sherwin.
