(ABC 6 News) - A day of remembrance was held at St. Marks Living nursing home in Austin.
On Tuesday, more than 100 butterflies were released into the air to honor those who have died in the past year but remain alive in our memories.
Butterflies were chosen because they represent change and transformation.
"This gives us the opportunity to honor those people who have gone before us, and to celebrate their life. I think butterflies [are] a nice way to honor and celebrate," said Darlene Feltes, administrator for Heartland Hospice.
This is the first time the butterfly release has been in Austin. Heartland Hospice has been doing this for four years in other communities.
