Austin Man Arrested in Connection with Lime Springs Bank Robbery

(ABC 6 News) - An Austin man has been arrested in connection with a reported bank robbery in Lime Springs Tuesday.

According to the Howard County Sheriff's Office, 27-year-old Luis Vega, of Austin, reportedly entered a Cresco Union Savings Bank around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday wearing a ski mask and waiving around a gun, demanding money.

Vega reportedly made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and no one was hurt in the incident.

An employee at the bank was able to give a description of the alleged getaway vehicle to authorities. 

The sheriff's office said survellance cameras in Lime Springs and LeRoy were able to capture the license plates and authorities determined the vehicle was located in Austin.

Vega was arrested at a home on the 600 block of 8th Ave. SE without incident.

Austin police, Mower County Sheriff's Office, Southeast Minnesota Violent Crimes Enforcement Team, Howard County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation all assisted in the investigation and arrest.

He's facing a possible charge of 1st Degree Robbery.
