(ABC 6 News) - A Massachusetts man is behind bars after reportedly leading police on a high-speed chase through part of Austin Thursday night.
Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said an officer was driving east in the 1400 block of 8th Ave. NE around 7:20 p.m. when a gray 2009 Ford Mustang was clocked at 42 mph in a 30 mph zone.
The officer began following the car, which sped up to as fast as 62 miles per hour as the chase wrapped around the south side of the Hormel Foods plant.
Kruger said the officer eventually stopped the car in the 1400 block of 8th Street NE.
The driver, 18-year-old Gilson Pina, of Dorchester, MA, was arrested and taken to the Mower County Jail on possible charges of fleeing a police officer, speeding, driving without a Minnesota license, failing to stop at a stop sign and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Two other people in the car were interviewed and released.
Krueger said police are still working to determine who owns the car, saying it may have been stolen.
