Police Searching for Suspect in Reported Robbery at Knifepoint

(ABC 6 News) - Police are searching for the suspect in a reported robbery early Monday morning.

According to the Austin Police Department, on Monday around 1 a.m. officers were called to the area of 14th Ave. and 8th St. SE for a report of an AB Taxi driver being robbed at knifepoint.

The driver told police that they had picked the suspect up from a gas station on 4th Ave. NE and that the suspect had asked to be dropped off in the 1800 block of 14th Ave. SE.

The driver said that after paying for the ride and asking for his change the suspect pulled out a knife and demanded all the money back saying he "has a family and bills to pay."

The suspect took off on foot with $300 total.

Police said the victim described the suspect as a male 5’8” to 5’10 with a stocky build, short curly black hair, possibly in his late 20’s to early 30’s and that at the time of the robbery wearing a “blue silky jumpsuit or something similar.”
