Investigators learned that two groups of 4-5 juveniles had gotten into a confrontation at the Mower County Fair earlier in the evening.

Police said the groups split up and but eventually ended up at the Dairy Queen in Austin where another confrontation took place and the 17-year-old was stabbed.

Officers identified a suspect and were looking for him until 12:45 Thursday morning when a patrol officer was flagged down by the suspect's mom who said her son wanted to turn himself in.

The juvenile was taken to the Olmsted County Juvenile Detention Center pending formal charges.

Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said the boy also has two felony warrants for failure to appear in court for a reported armed robbery that happened in June.
