(ABC 6 News)-- Art is what sets humans apart. It’s not just about painting, singing or dancing, it's about sparking an emotion or memory in others.

This weekend is all about celebrating art in Austin.

From one-of-a-kind finds, to live performances, to art-related activities, the 8th annual "Austin Artworks Festival" has something for just about everyone.

Celebrating her 8th birthday, Ava Martin was on the lookout for one thing. “All of the jewelry,” she said.

At the downtown gathering, you'll also find one painter who uses an unusual tool to create his masterpieces. “I paint with razor blades,” said Bob McGill.

For the second year in a row, McGill traveled all the way from Tennessee to show his work. “[My art] is supposed to make you smile, it's supposed to make you happy,” he said.

He’s one of more than 60 vendors at the festival and it’s not just out-of-town artists who are partaking.

“The Austin Artworks Festival features local artists, musicians, authors,” said Bonnie Rietz, Co-Chair of the event.

Sonia Larson, an Austin resident, specializes in watercolor painting. “I'm just crazy about colors so one of my favorite things to do is get the paper all wet and then just drop in color and see how it mixes up,” she said. “A lot of people who wouldn't otherwise come and see what I’ve been doing will just be wandering through the tent area.”

Last year’s festival brought more than 9,000 people to downtown Spamtown. With the beautiful weather this weekend, organizers are sure they will surpass that total.

“The arts are so important for a community, that's what gives you the heart and soul of a community,” said Rietz. “You just walk a little taller after a weekend like this.”

Austin Artworks is back on Sunday.  You can stop by between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
