(ABC 6 News) - Police are investigating an armed robbery at another Austin convenience store.

Police Chief Brian Krueger says a man brandishing a handgun walked into the Apollo III convenience store in the 3000 block of West Oakland Avenue just after nine o’clock Sunday night and ordered a clerk to open a safe. The gunman took a blue bank bag from the safe and an undisclosed amount of money from a cash register and fled.

An employee saw a person believed to be the robber leaving the scene on a bicycle.
A bicycle was found a short distance away. A police K9 was brought to the scene and followed a trail for a short distance before losing it.

The gunman was described as an African American man wearing a black scarf over his face. The clerk described him as 5-foot-6 to 5-8, with an average to slender build.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said there were some similarities to two suspects who held up the Freedom Value Center at gunpoint just over a week ago. In that case, the suspects were described as about six feet tall, and the handgun shown in the Freedom Robbery was described as “silver”; the gun used in the Apollo robbery was described as “black”.

No one was hurt in either case.

Police continue to investigate both incidents. If you know anything, you’re asked to contact the Austin Police Department.
