ALERT DAY Today - Strong/Severe Storm Potential

September 12, 2019 08:51 AM

What is an "ALERT DAY"? It's a day the ABC 6 First Alert Weather Team is watching closely for the potential of threatening weather; whether that's summer or winter severe weather. We will have three rounds of storms for today, with the third and final one the more intense cluster as it moves through the area. The one we are more concerned about the severe weather threat, bringing all types of severe weather to our area from 2 to 7 PM. This INCLUDES tornadoes. Our weather set-up today is more favorable for tornadoes in our area, as we have plenty of spin in the atmosphere around the time the storms will be moving through, and the cloud bases are relatively low. And keep in mind we also have the threat for large hail, damaging wind, and another round of heavy rain, which could lead to flash flooding in areas. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for the area until 1 AM Friday. Keep it on ABC 6 News on air and online for the latest weather information regarding our severe weather threat today.
