(ABC 6 News) - Friday, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the Upper Midwest Emmy nominations for 2019 and ABC 6 News received three nominations.
In the category for daytime newscasts in markets 121+ our morning show was nominated for their show on May 9 centered around live coverage from the Governor's Fishing Opener in Albert Lea. Tia Quirk, Brianna Cook, Jim Peterson, Laura Lee, Brian Wise, Erick Koen, Quinton Dols, Javier Gil, Hannah Tiede and Blaise Keller were all a part of making that show happen.
In the category for general assignment reports Alice Keefe and photographer Brian Wise were nominated for the story, Construction Costs Residents and Business Thousands. That report was centered around a project on North Broadway in Rochester, the City initially billing businesses and residents in the thousands for costs related to fixing sidewalks, repaving the alleyway and street construction. Since the story aired that project has been put on hold and the City is looking for alternative funding.
And, in the category of a news single story or series related to health anchor Laura Lee and photographer Chad Corey were nominated for their piece called Riding for Love: A Little Boy's Journey to See his Family. Laura and Chad followed 9-year-old Soren Saterdalen, of Leroy, during his weekly bus ride from Leroy to Rochester to visit his dad at Mayo Clinic who is receiving treatment for Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a rare form of pre-acute leukemia.
This year nearly 950 submissions were made to the Upper Midwest Emmy's. The winners will be announced at an awards gala on October 5.
