(ABC 6 News) - Monday, CNN published a report describing a Minnesota family's alleged escape from Mayo Clinic in Rochester where the family accused the clinic of holding their daughter captive.  Now, Mayo Clinic is speaking out about the report calling it "inaccurate, incomplete and irresponsible."

In a news release issued Thursday, Mayo Clinic said: "because of the egregious errors in the story - and the fact that the public is left believing such false and sensational claims about our dedicated and hard-working staff - we were left no choice but to share more information about the situation."

Mayo Clinic also sent a letter to CNN stating, "For 18 months, we shared information to help the CNN reporters investigate the facts of the situation.  They clearly understood our concern for the patient's safety, they chose to ignore those concerns and did not check or report on public records associated with this case right up to the point the story aired/was published."

Mayo Clinic went on to outline that CNN had been in contact with the patient's family before "their removal" from the hospital and that the clinic had reported suspected abuse of the patient to the County among other things.
