According to court documents, the 57-year-old has been indicted on Murder in the First Degree, Premeditated and Murder in the Second Degree, Intent.

Documents state the penalty for Murder in the First Degree is life imprisonment without release.  The maximum penalty for premeditated murder in the Second Degree is no more than 40 years.

Riess is accused of killing her 54-year-old husband, David. Documents state he was killed in March of 2018 in the bathroom of their Blooming Prairie home with a .22 caliber handgun and a blanket was placed over his head.

Police allege that Riess then fled to Florida where she met Pamela Hutchinson at a Fort Meyers Beach bar and killed her to assume her identity.

Authorities said both women were close in age and stature, and both had almost white hair.

Hutchinson's body was found on April 9 by a hotel employee.  She was found dead in the bathroom, lying on a pillow and covered with a towel.  Authorities said she had been shot twice, once in the heart and once in teh side.  Authorities also said a bath towel was placed on teh floor outside the bathroom door, allegedly to create a seal.

A nationwide manhunt took place before she was arrested ten days later in Texas

Investigators collected a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun, a 9-millimeter pistol as well as ammunition from her car.

In October 2018, a Dodge County Investigator flew to Florida and took possession of the handgun. The handgun was turned over to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for forensic testing.

In late January, the MN BCA completed their testing and the forensics report indicated the shell casings found at the Riess Homicide matched the handgun that was taken from her car in Texas.

A Florida Grand Jury indicted Riess for 1st-Degree Murder with a Firearm and the prosecutor said he will pursue the death penalty.

Riess has pleaded not guilty to all charges in Florida.
