(ABC 6 News) — Friday proved that the Warriors are mortal after all.

Number two Caledonia boys basketball lost for the second time all season, 62-55 to the third-seed Annandale Cardinals in the Class AA state semifinals.

The Warriors had begun in earnest, Eli King and Jackson Koepke hitting early shots to put the Warriors in front. But after going into halftime down 26-20, the Cardinals caught fire. Specifically, Carson Gagnon, he landed a whopping 7-of-11 attempted three-pointers in the second. The Warriors couldn’t match that offensive fury, going 6-for-21 from beyond the arc as a team overall.

Despite outstealing Annandale, 10 to five, the Warriors couldn’t get out of foul trouble, getting whistled 23 times compared to the Cardinals’ 15.

Caledonia can only capture third place at best on Saturday; they’ll face #5 Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at Concordia University in Saint Paul at Noon. That game will be streamed on MN Prep Spotlight.
