(KSTP) - Gov. Tim Walz is set to bypass the Minnesota Legislature and ban conversion therapy in the state.
The governor's office said Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan will participate in a signing ceremony for an executive order on Thursday morning.
The order will protect LGBTQ+ youth from conversion therapy, something the Republican-controlled Minnesota Senate has pushed back on. Conversion therapy has already been banned by some cities in the state, including Minneapolis, St. Paul and Duluth.
A total of 20 states in the U.S. ban conversion therapy for minors, and four others partially ban the practice, according to Family Equality.
The signing ceremony is set for 11 a.m.
