UPDATE: Person of interest in deadly Owatonna stabbing arrested

(ABC 6 News) - UPDATE 1:00 p.m.: The man identified as a person of interest in the stabbing death of an Owatonna man is in police custody.

Hassan Nur Hassan was arrested without incident by Minneapolis Police Department late Monday night and booked into the Hennepin County Jail at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday.

Hassan is being transferred to the Steele County Jail as he awaits charges in the July 12 death of Mohamed Aweis Mohamed of Owatonna.


(ABC 6 News) - UPDATE: 5:12 p.m.: The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man who died due to a stab wound to the chest Sunday at a park in Owatonna as 32-year-old Mohamed Aweis Mohamed, of Owatonna.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Owatonna police are asking for the public's help in locating 28-year-old Hassan Nur Hassan, who is a person of interest in the case.

Hassan is described as 5'11" tall, around 140 lbs., with brown hair, brown eyes and a goatee.  Investigators believe he's driving a tan 2000 Honda Accord with Minnesota license plate #EFF-087.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts, or who witnessed anything at the park, are asked to call the Owatonna Police Department at 507-444-3800 or 911.


10:45 a.m. 7/13/20: Officials said a man found in Dartts Park died as a result of a stabbing.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Owatonna Police Department continue to investigate the incident. 

Officials said when they responded to the park, the man was on the ground. Responders attempted to help the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's identity has not been released. 

The Department of Public Safety said in a press release two knives were recovered at the scene.

The Owatonna Police Department is investigating a man's death at Dartts Park.

Officials were called to the park shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The victim is believed to be an adult male, the cause of death has not been identified. Officials say no one is in custody as of 5:00 a.m. Monday. 

This is a developing story. More information is expected to be released Monday morning.
