(ABC 6 News) - The Minnesota State High School League no longer requires student-athletes to wear masks when they are actively engaged in outdoor competition or practice.
This new policy goes into effect today.
Masks must be worn by athletes when they are not actively practicing or playing and cannot maintain social distancing.Coaches, spectators, and officials are all still required to wear face-coverings at both indoor and outdoor events.
Indoor student-athletes are still required to wear masks for both practices and competition.
Earlier this month, the MSHSL board asked state health officials to allow spring sports athletes to compete outdoors without wearing masks.
This change comes as the Minnesota Department of Health updated guidance regarding organized sports practice and games for youth and adults.
