(ABC 6 News) - Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) launched its new vaccine connector tool. MDH said over 50,000 people had already signed up by 10 a.m. Thursday. The goal of the connector is to make vaccination sign-up easier for all Minnesotans.
"The lieutenant governor and the governor have said that the goal is for every Minnesotan in every community across the state to feel connected to this vaccine network, to know that you're on the radar screen and to know how to get a vaccine safety and confidently as supplies increase," Jan Malcolm, MDH commissioner, said.
MDH said they are urging everyone to sign up -- even if you aren't currently in the groups eligible for the vaccine. Then, as soon as you are eligible, you'll be connected to available vaccine opportunities.
"There is no cost to this and there is no restricted time period for signing up. The connector is now open and it will remain open 24/7," Malcolm said.
You can sign up for the connector online or over the phone. The phone number is 833-431-2053.
When signing up online, you'll be asked to provide demographic information. You don't have to, but MDH encourages everyone to provide as much information as possible to determine eligibility and ensure equitable distribution.
"This will also be a really important way to improve the ability of focused communities who we know have been disproportionately hit by COVID-19. This will help us improve our ability to make sure that those disproportionately effected communities, including communities of color and American Indians are able to access the vaccine," Malcolm said.
If you have already signed up for the state's lottery system or the community pharmacy program, you do not have to sign up through the connector. If you have not yet signed up, this tool will be a way for you to do so.
