(ABC 6 News) - A year after being sworn in as Minnesota's Lieutenant Governor, Peggy Flanagan has received a big leadership award.
The National Congress of American Indians in Washington, D.C. presented her with the Native American Leadership Award.
Flanagan is the highest-ranking Native woman elected to executive office in the history of the United States.
She was recognized for her work raising awareness of issues affecting Native communities, increasing civic engagement, improving lives in Indian country, and transforming tribal-state relations in Minnesota.
