(ABC 6 News) -- Quick thinking by Olmsted County deputies helped a stove fire from getting worse in Viola Township.

According to Captain Scott Behrns with the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, a deputy responded to 2078 100th Avenue NE for a report of a stove fire around 10:27 a.m. on May 16.

Captain Behrns said the stove had a malfunction, food overflowed onto the burner, and started a fire.

The deputy got everyone out of the home safe and tried to put the fire out using a fire extinguisher, but the fire kept reigniting.

A second deputy arrived on the scene and asked the homeowner where the breaker box to the home was.

The deputy located the box and shut off the power to the stove.

Captain Behrns said the stove is a total loss.
