North Iowa schools have athletes medal in State TXF Championships

(ABC 6 News) — Thursday was Day 1 of the Iowa state track and field championships with several participants from the North Iowa area competing in Des Moines.

After the first day, a few schools already have a handful of hardware coming back home. In the boys’ 3200m run, St. Ansgar’s Riley Witt took home the 1A title with a time of 9:38.96. Meanwhile, Clear Lake’s Reese Browlee medaled twice by taking first in the 2A girls’ long jump (18-7) and landing third in the girls 400m (58.29).

A pair of Charles City Comets performed impressively, Ian Collins became a back-to-back 3A state champion in the boys’ high jump (6-9) while Keely Collins captured second in the 3A girls’ high jump (5-6).

Rounding out Thursday’s top-three finishes was Osage’s Katelyn Johnston, who nabbed third in the girls’ 2A 3000m run (10:55.51) as the state championships continue into Friday and Saturday.
