Mason City man arrested after car chase, trying to hide under a mattress

(ABC 6 News) - A Mason City man with several active warrants was taken into custody Thursday night after leading deputies on a chase and trying to hide at his home.

Just before 11:30 p.m. a Cerro Gordo County Deputy tried to pull over 41-year-old Jeremy Mulford. 

Mulford sped off from the deputy and led them on a chase reaching speeds of about 90 miles per hour.

The sheriff's office said Mulford ended up driving to his home near 6th St SE and S Massachusetts Ave. where he ran inside and tried to hide under a mattress but the deputy was able to find him and arrest him.

Mulford was arrested on six warrants out of Cerro Gordo County. Those include:

  • Violation of parole
  • 1st offense trespassing
  • Failure to appear for pre-trial release for 2nd-degree theft
  • Failure to appear for pre-trial release for eluding
  • 2nd-degree theft and trespassing
  • 2nd-degree theft and possession of burglary tools.

Mulford also had a warrant out of Worth County on multiple charges including several varying degrees of theft, trespassing, criminal mischief and ongoing criminal conduct.

Mulford is also facing additional possible charges for leading deputies on a pursuit. Both Mulford's vehicle and home were searched with a warrant. Additional charges are possible.
