(ABC 6 News) - The Charles City Fire Department was called to a fire at a home early Tuesday morning after lightning struck the home.

The CCFD said it received the call just before 4 a.m. at a home just Southeast of Charles City.

When crews arrived at the home they saw fire and smoke coming from the roof. The fire was reportedly contained to the attic and was put out by crews. The fire department said there is substantial smoke and water damage throughout the home.

The CCFD said two people were home at the time of the fire and both were able to escape without any injuries.

The home is reportedly owned by Russell Bornstein, a 20-year-veteran Firefighter of the CCFD.
