Lake Mills man pleads guilty to 2019 crash

(ABC 6 News) - A Lake Mills man has pleaded guilty to a traffic accident that occurred in Winnebago County back in January 2019.

In a press release for proceedings in the Iowa District Court for Winnebago County for the week of March 29, 2021.

Michael Scott Olsen, 22 of Lake Mills, pleaded guilty to 3 counts of “serious injury by vehicle”.

The charges stem from a traffic accident investigation by the Forest City Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office on January 1, 2019.

According to court documents, Olsen was involved in a serious collision in rural Winnebago County. Olsen was traveling southbound on 120th Avenue when he struck another vehicle head-on. The other vehicle had 8 occupants in the other vehicle. After investigating further it was found that Olsen was found to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Olsen was originally charged with 14 crimes including, 6 counts of "serious injury by vehicle", one count of operating under the influence, possession of controlled substance, and 6 counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

Olsen is scheduled to be sentenced on May 25.
