(ABC 6 News) - The owners of Mr. Taco have opened a second business in downtown Mason City, The Happy Donkey Tequila Bar.
Luis Garcia has been dreaming up the new bar and restaurant for a year and a half.
“Working, fixing, investing a little bit of money. But finally. it was a long way,” said Garcia.
Garcia is getting some help from his neighbors on the plaza, too. Moorman Clothiers, a well-established and decade-long business, is allowing the newest business in the downtown district to use its storefront to seat guests outdoors.
“It’s really cool to see these two businesses come together. That’s a silver lining that’s come out of this whole pandemic. You’re seeing these community partners emerge and businesses coming together to help support each other, which is really incredible,” said Emily Ginneberge Executive Director of Main Street Mason City.
“I was excited, happy, and comfortable because they were welcoming and really nice. Especially all the neighbors in here are really nice,” Garcia said.
Garcia doesn’t plan to let his neighbors down anytime soon. He says the name ‘The Happy Donkey’ reflects his work ethic.
“We picked this name because a donkey is a hard-working animal in Mexico. They never complain, they just work, work, work, same with us. We work 20 – 24 hours and we never complain,” said Garcia.
The Happy Donkey Tequila Bar has around 150 different types of tequila and plans to add more.
