(ABC 6 News) -- Iowa State Patrol reports a fatal accident in Mitchell County on Friday.

Authorities say the crash took place on Friday around 8:00 in the morning.  The incident took place on T40 half a mile south of 450th St. south of the border of Iowa and Minnesota.


State Patrol says Brandon Wednt of Mankato, Minnesota who was driving a semi-truck and traveling southbound on Monument Ave. in Mitchell County, when he attempted to overtake a John Deere tractor. Authorities say, at about the same time that Wednt was trying to overtake the tractor, the tractor attempted to make a left turn into a driveway, and in the process the semi-truck hit the tractor from behind.

The driver of the tractor was identified as 62-year-old James Duponcheele of Stacyville, IA.

ABC 6 News spoke to the victim's sister after she reached out to us.  She said that his family calls him Jim. He was on his way to a friend's. Jim's sister says he was a kind man, born and raised in the area his whole life.  His sister adds that Jim put everything into his farm where he lived. Jim is survived by his four sisters and his mother.
