(ABC 6 News) - Alliant Energy is helping families fight hunger over the holidays.
The company is donating $100,000 to purchase food boxes for families in need this Christmas.
For many families, this holiday season is the first time they need extra help due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We want to show families that they are not alone. We know it’s been a very challenging year and we’re here to help,” said Alliant Energy Spokesperson Morgan Hawk.
The food boxes are being delivered to families across 14 different communities in Iowa and Wisconsin. 1,000 food boxes are being distributed to families in Iowa.
Alliant is partnering with Four Oaks to help get the boxes in the hands of families in need.
“We were thrilled to be able to be a part of this process because there is a big need within the families that we serve. It make you feel really good to be able to give something to families that can help them enjoy the holidays,” said Utilization Manager at Four Oaks in Mason City Janna Wuttke.
Hy-Vee is also joining the collaboration by offering food at a discounted price and helping package the boxes.
The food boxes include all the ingredients needed to make the perfect holiday dinner, such as potatoes, canned vegetables, and ingredients for sugar cookies. Shelf stable items and a gift certificate to purchase meat and dairy are also included.
“If we can help them take a little bit of the stress off, it feels really good,” Wuttke said.
“We’re proud to be a part of this partnership as Iowans help fellow Iowans in need,” said Hawk.
