911 call leads to police chase in Clear Lake Saturday

(ABC 6 News) – A Council Bluffs man is facing several charges after a 911 call turned into a police chase on Saturday night.

24-year-old Evac A. Cave is charged with with Operation While Intoxicated (OWI) 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and multiple traffic violations. He was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Clear Lake Police said Cave called their communications center around 10:30 pm Saturday, speaking erratically and making incoherent statements. Officers were eventually dispatched to attempt to make contact with Cave and check on his welfare.

Roughly 20 minutes later, an officer located Cave’s vehicle speeding in the area of North Shore Drive and Clark Road. After attempting to pull Cave vehicle over, a pursuit began. Stops sticks were used in attempt to stop Cave’s car, at 235th and Dogwood, but he continued driving on three deflated tires.

After about 40 minutes on the phone, dispatchers were able to convince Cave to stop on Balsam Avenue, just south of 230th Street. Cave eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

“We are very proud of the work done by our dispatchers and the officers involved,” said Captain Mike Colby. “Our dispatcher, in talking with Cave, did an excellent job of helping to persuade him to stop and conclude this incident without injury.”

The Clear Lake Police Department was assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Natural Resources.
