(ABC 6 News) - In a recent poll, Minnesotans say they are losing confidence in Gov. Tim Walz's response to the coronavirus pandemic but are approving of the way their school district is handling reopening.

In the ABC 6 News coronavirus poll conducted by SurveyUSA, 750 adults across Minnesota were surveyed between September 4 and September 7, including 201 parents of school-aged children.

Parents on school response
70% of parents statewide approve of the way their local school district has reopened schools this Fall in the face of the global pandemic. 25% disapprove of the way their local school has responded, but only 5% of them strongly disapprove.

A plurality of Minnesota school children, 37%, have gone back to school with a hybrid model of some in-class learning and some at-home learning. 33% of school children are learning from home full-time. 24% are learning in-class full-time.

Minnesotans on governor's response to the pandemic
In May, four months ago, 82% of Minnesotans approved of the way Gov. Walz was handling the state's response to the coronavirus pandemic. Today, while most residents are still back the governor, that approval number has dropped by 21 points, to 61%. The number of Minnesotans who disapprove of the governor's response to the virus has more than doubled, from 14% in May to 32% today. Walz's numbers remain nearly 2:1 positive, but the trend is not in the governor's favor.

Minnesotans on Trump's response the pandemic
By contrast, President Donald Trump remains underwater in the minds of Minnesotans, as he has been each of the four times SurveyUSA has asked the identical question statewide. Today, 38% of adults approve of the President's response to the virus, up ever-so-slightly from May 2020, but down every so slightly from July 2020. Today, 56% of adults disapprove of the President's response to the virus, down ever-so-slightly from May 2020, but up ever-so-slightly from July 2020.
