(ABC 6 News) - Albert Lea photographer Lizzie Meyer owns LM Photography, and like so many small business owners right now, her work is slowing down.

“Being a photographer of people and not anything else, it has definitely come to a complete halt as far as actually doing shoots and things like that,” she said.

Even though her photo shoots stopped, she and her husband learned that creativity could continue.

“We kind of haven’t had any contact with people. We were like we gotta do something that would still be safe, cause we’re going stir crazy,” she said.

They took to Facebook, asking families and business owners to sign up for a social distancing photo shoot, after seeing photographers around the country organize similar projects.

“We know that was something we had to do. So we slapped on our zoom lens on and started setting those up,” she said.

On Sunday, families gathered on decks, waved from toy cars and showcased “spousal distancing.”

“What we came up with was it was supposed to be like I was taking a break from baking to read a book with my daughter and my fiancé. We kind of set up our stoop with a bunch of snacks and a little blanket,” said photo shoot participant Megan Haukoos.

It gave her an opportunity to be together with both her family and the Albert Lea community.

“The sense of togetherness that it brought while we’re all self-isolating and trying to stay healthy and safe, that was really the best part,” she said.

Bringing a bit of normalcy back to changing lifestyles.

“For those families to just have some outside connection from very very far away and just get smiling, think of creative things and just have fun as a family,” said Meyer.

Meyer plans to do social distancing photo shoots once a week throughout southeast Minnesota. To sign up, head to her company Facebook page LM Photography.

The photos will be posted to social media and whoever gets the most “likes” will win a free photo shoot when it becomes safe again.
