(ABC 6 News) - Supply shortages are making business difficult for florists across the country as they enter their busiest time of the year.
Mother's Day, graduations, proms, and weddings are all happening this time of year. But flower shortages have florists waiting for necessary supplies to arrive.
"There is constant communication, emails about what's happening in the industry, what's happening in the world. But as a consumer of the product, we're having daily substitutes. We pre-order substitutes. Some stuff is not even showing up," Mindy Hedberg, owner of Huckleberry Floral Design and Gift in Dodge Center, said.
The pandemic has slowed suppliers down and Hedberg says some changes to order have been made because some flowers are hard to track down. The growing process can't be rushed, so all there is left to do for florists like Renning's Flowers in Rochester is wait.
"As we get better – more immunizations and so forth like that, production will continue to get higher and higher and greater and greater. Hopefully, it will catch up to demand cause demand has been good," Renning's owner Phil Schroeder said.
