(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester International Airport says the United Airlines is suspending its services starting July 6.
RST officials made the announcement on Friday and says they have been informed by a recent Department of Transportation ruling that United Airlines plans to suspend its air services to the market starting on July 6 through September 30, 2020. The decision by the DOT allows United Airlines and other carriers to seek an exception under the CARES Act to reduce or suspend service because of unprecedented travel restrictions and historic low passenger counts due to the coronavirus pandemic.
RST executive director John Reed says they understand the unprecedented economic burden COVID-19 has had on airline companies. But they remain hopeful that their services will be reinstated when demand for air travel begins to improve.
