(ABC 6 News) -- It was a perfect fall day in 2019 when our ABC 6 News crew could come and talk with 5-year-old Nathan Herber and his family about his battle with T-Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Fast forward to today, and using facetime was the safest way for us to speak with the Herber Family.

"I just wish people understood that we weren't being paranoid, we were not being helicopter parents," said Nathan's mom Becky Herber.

"Every virus is life-threatening, unfortunately, we saw that first hand last February with RSV when we almost lost Nathan. He went into respiratory failure and ARDS, some of the scary things the COVID-19 virus is causing, we experienced that with RSV. We are always wiping things down, washing hands, vaccinating, so things really haven't changed much for us," said Nathan's dad Andy Herber.

For the rest of the nation, the last few weeks have been hard for many to adjust to.

"I had a friend call me this week, and she said my family is having a really hard time being home. They have an active family with 4 kids. She said it hit her that this is what you (Herber family) have been dealing with for a year and a half. It's human nature to want to be social and it's really hard to accept the fact that in order to keep someone alive you really can't be around other people," said Becky.
Nathan still undergoes cancer treatments.

Just this week, Andy posted a photo of Nathan to his facebook page.
It said, "Day 57 chemo escalation. To those social distancing to protect the vulnerable. THANK YOU!"
