(ABC 6 News) - OMNI Solutions specializes in UV disinfection and their product is in high demand right now. Company employees are cleaning Mayo Clinic ambulances using ultraviolet light, which kills bacteria.
A coat of nano-technological surface protection is then applied to surfaces inside the vehicles protecting against viruses and bacteria for up to 90 days.
"So we spray on this protectant and what it does is when it dries hard it creates a bed of needles so this is a mechanical, all-natural product that creates mechanical disinfection. Anything that touches it, it will pierce the membrane and the cell wall will break," Paul Jewison, senior VP for OMNI Solutions said.
Jewison said this smart ultraviolet light machine has many purposes and can protect against any surface.
"This particular unit here will clean a hotel room, hospital room in probably 30 minutes, somewhere around there. It all depends on what you're trying to get done," he said. "It happens fast so in the ambulance area about 10 minutes of this thing running, everything's dead and that's what separates our process now from everything else."
This, in turn, is changing the way surfaces are cleaned.
"I believe that it's the future and then we moved in and called mayo and we said hey I think this is a big deal to protect people that are handling patients," Jewison said. "Just like peanut butter and chocolate, that's kind of what we did."
