(ABC 6 News) -- Three Olmsted County residents have been hospitalized due to COVID-19, according to Director of Olmsted County Public Health Graham Briggs.
The county has reported 29 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far. Briggs said he expects to see the number of hospitalizations grow as COVID-19 continues to spread.
“When we talk about hospitalizations we’re talking about residents of Olmsted County that have been hospitalized. They could actually be in a hospital in Minneapolis or Kansas or right here in Rochester,” he said.
For now, he said the medical facilities in Olmsted County are doing fine when it comes to the number of beds and ventilators available.
“The strain on the medical system here locally in Olmsted County is not an issue at this point. We’re not hearing anything in the emergency operations center here at the county level that we’re on the verge of reaching capacity or anything like that,” he said.
On Wednesday, Governor Tim Walz said that most cases of COVID-19 are mild, but that he expects 15 percent of people who contract the illness to require some type of hospitalization, with five percent requiring ICU.
