(ABC 6 News) - Two new coffee shops have been nothing but pleasant surprises to the Rochester community. Both opening their doors, or drive-thru windows, during the pandemic.
For Roasted Bliss Coffee Shop & Bakery, it wasn't originally in the plan to open a second location.
"We weren't even necessarily planning on coming to Rochester, this opportunity just kind of came up and we decided to jump on it since the timing seemed right," co-owner, Denise Myers said.
Ali and Denise opened up their St. Charles location in December of 2019, only a few months before the pandemic started.
"We noticed too, at Christmas time, we'd have like $500 orders from people in Rochester and we were like 'okay, obviously there's a need there.' So, we decided instead of us trying to deliver all the time into Rochester, why don't we open up a shop here and it's been very well received," co-owner, Ali Johnson said.
They also added a drive-thru to their South Broadway Ave. location, which is something their St. Charles location doesn't have. Offering a safer option for customers during the pandemic.
"We're just really excited to be a part of the Rochester community and see what people like here," Myers said.
Due North Coffee Co. started up in 2019 as well.
They opened their Minnesota-branded, drive-up ice house opened a few weeks ago in southeast Rochester.
"We've seen a need over here further on this side, so we were super excited to bring coffee finally to southeast and we've had a lot of really excited people to have coffee over here for them," co-owner, Katrina Pulham said.
The ice house was a positive project to work on and something fun to plan during the pandemic.
"For us, it was a blessing in disguise just to have something good to work on and to think about during the shutdowns," Pulham said.
Due North Coffee Co. in Rochester has a unique drive-thru style and is Minnesota's only coffee ice house.
"It is a trailer, but it is a drive-thru and you can pull up with your car and grab and go," Pulham said.
