MDH reports 20,000 COVID-19 tests completed on Saturday

(ABC 6 News) - The latest information as of August 10, 2020 on coronavirus in Minnesota according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

Back on April 22, Gov. Walz announced a goal of a statewide testing capacity goal of as many as 20,000 Minnesotans in one day. Monday, MDH is reporting it hit that number with 20,007 on Saturday, August 8 with all but 755 completed by external laboratories. At the time of reporting, the positive count is at 78 but is expected to change due to the delay in testing.

Total overall lab tests completed: 1,172,118
Total number of people tested: 944,160

CASES

625 newly reported confirmed positive cases

  • Total confirmed cases of COVID-19: 61,516

Number of health care workers: 6,854

POSITIVE RATE

5.2% of total tests to date have been reported as positive

RECOVERED
Total patients who no longer need to be isolated: 54,364, 88% of total confirmed cases 

HOSPITALIZATION
Total number of patients hospitalized: 5,606

  • Patients in the hospital: 320
  • Patients in ICU: 159

DEATHS
3 deaths reported today
Residence type of newly reported deaths: 

  • Private Residence: 2
  • Long-term care facility/Assisted living: 1

Total number of deaths: 1,660
Probable COVID-19 deaths: 41
*COVID-19 listed on death certificate but a positive test not documented for the person.

75.3% of deaths, or 1,250, were among cases that resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities.
