(ABC 6 News) -- The Minnesota Department of Health says that COVID-19 cases are spreading in senior living facilities throughout the state. They say 25 long-term senior living facilities are reporting they have either a resident or a staff that is ill with COVID-19.
MDH says 21 residents across different facilities have COVID-19 and 11 healthcare workers employed in those facilities are sick with the new coronavirus.
MDH says they are working with the facilities to mitigate further spread of the virus, "Just the presence of 1 case classifies that as an outbreak or potential outbreak for us. There's a team of epidemiologist that immediately works with that facility and a nurse case manager who checks in with that facility multiple times a day." said Commissioner Jan Malcolm of the Minnesota Dept. of Health on Sunday.
Health officials did not mention how COVID-19 spread in these facilities. They also say there have been no confirmed cases inside prisons or jails in the state as of Sunday.
