(ABC 6 News) -- People lined up at the Mayo Civic Center in Downtown Rochester to get their COVID-19 vaccine. Vault Health is administering the vaccines. Their goal to vaccinate 1,500 people Sunday.

Dr. Myles Spar with Vault Health says the day has been going well. People do not have to wait long.

But something good also happened to Dr. Spar and his team. One of his nurses received a letter from a patient expressing their gratitude to his staff. He read that letter to us, “When you're a grandparent one day, you'll understand the hunger and longing to hold a little one in your lap or develop them in your arms. That necessary distance has been soul-crushing and heartbreaking as they grow one year older without us. But here you are my vaccine angel,” the letter read. “So that's why we're here,” Dr. Spar said.

For one patient who received the vaccine, she traveled all the way from Farmington to Rochester to get her shot, “It was scary and relief because of the unknowns about the vaccination is what made it a little scary, but relief having it. I feel fine other than you get the feeling when you get a normal shot,” Marie Hansen, Farmington resident said.

Vaccinations will continue until 8 p.m. Sunday. This is the state's third permanent mass vaccination site. The site will be open every Sunday as long as vaccines are available.

The people getting shots Sunday got access through the state's lottery system.
