(ABC 6 News) - Gyms across the country are closed, but local HIIT instructor Chantel Beuning isn't letting a quarantine stop her from exercising.
HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. It is compromised of exercises that vary in intensity and are meant to burn a substantial amount of calories in a short amount of time.
Beuning has been an instructor at the Rochester YMCA for six years, and didn't want to give it up when the YMCA closed to limit the spread of COVID-19. The answer to her problem: Facebook Live.
"It's a lot different, because I just see myself," Beuning said. "But I feel like I'm able to connect with a lot more people."
In just eight days the more than 400 people joined her Facebook Group, "Let's HIIT it!!!"
Beuning live streams her HIIT workouts on the page and posts them for people to view later.
"Even though we're stuck at home doesn't mean we stop moving, doesn't mean we stop being active. It's still so important to keep up with our mental health, our personal health, and everything that goes along with it," said Beuning.
Staying fit and healthy is important to Beuning, but keeping a routine and feeling productive is just as important.
"This is doing so much for me too. To be able to have some sense of normalcy in my life. And I truly hope that it's doing the same for people that are taking these classes too," said Beuning.
