(ABC 6 News) - Governor Tim Walz is touring the state, stopping in Rochester Friday afternoon highlighting his ‘Your Shot to Summer’ COVID-19 vaccine incentive campaign.
The campaign aims to help Minnesota reach the goal of vaccinating 70 percent of Minnesotans over the age of 16 by July 1 by providing rewards to Minnesotans who get their first dose of the vaccine in June.
The governor visited Mayo Field, the home of the Rochester Honkers Northwoods League baseball team. As part of his campaign to get more people vaccinated, Honkers regular season tickets are included in those incentives.
The first 100,000 Minnesotans who get their first shot from May 27 through June 30 will be able to choose the incentive of their preference.
"The vaccines are our tickets out of it. It is incredible and we're grateful for the scientists and for the manufacturing, but you got to get them into arms and that takes coordination, and that was a partnership not just MDH. Mayo Clinic, all of our private partners, but our non-profits and folks that are getting vaccines to where people are at," Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said.
