(ABC 6 News) - Golf courses across the state of Minnesota are making quick preparations to open after Governor Walz announced that various outdoor recreation businesses can reopen Saturday morning.
Golf courses like Willow Creek in Rochester have been put on hold like other businesses across the country. For owners Andy Black and Will Lancaster, the wait seemed like an eternity.
The two bought the course earlier this year and had been preparing for their grand opening when the COVID-19 crisis began. The virus has pushed off their first chance to see their business in action.
"A month of sitting here wanting to be open and not being able to, it really made it so tomorrow is a good day," Lancaster said.
Willow Creek will open at noon on Saturday. They are hoping the remaining snow melts away by then. The conditions will be soft and wet, so no golf carts will be used. Regardless of the conditions, big crowds are expected on opening day-- while social distancing of course.
"Obviously it'll be a little wet out there. However I don't think people care at this point. Everybody just wants to get out and golf," Black said.
City-owned golf courses in Rochester say they will open as soon as they can.
