(ABC 6 News)-- Senior citizens across the country are being told to stay home amid the growing COVID-19 cases.

After orders went out canceling gatherings big or small, one Minnesotan florist company had the idea to bring a little happiness back to the community.

"When we're faced with challenges, you really see the good in people and by having these flowers, what a testament that is," said Marni Harris, the Active life manager at The Waters senior living facility.

Bachman's Floral Home and Garden was set to showcase 4,000 flowers starting this weekend in Edina, MN, as a part of the Galleria Floral Experience. Officials from the company said after seeing the way things were going with outbreaks, the event was canceled, leaving them with an abundance of flowers.

"We were very excited to get the news that Bachman's in the cities wanted to bring flowers to all of our residents," said Harris.

Instead of letting the flowers go to waste, Bachman's delivered about 175 flower arrangements to the residents at The Waters.

"I'm very very surprised, and like I told John, I've never been to a flower show all my life," said Delores Huse, a resident at the facility.

Officials with the company said that the floral experience helps to celebrate the start of Spring and puts a smile on people's faces as they enjoy all of the flowers on display. Even though they couldn't give that to the entire community, they were still able to provide that smile to people who needed it.

Like most, if not all senior living facilities, The Waters has limited visitation from the outside,  and inside the building, residents are practicing social distancing.

Harris said residents have had to share special moments with family through their windows, and residents shared that the lockdown is taking a toll.

"We eat, we try to make fun, whatever we can do," said Huse.

Each of the residents got flowers delivered to their room, and Harris said hopefully over the next few days as they are able to look at them, they will also see a glimpse of hope.

Bachman's also delivered flowers to eight other "The Waters" locations throughout Minnesota.
