(ABC 6 News) - While our community plans for the temporary statewide school closures, several local businesses are taking extra steps to help parents and kids find the resources they need.

If you know of a local business that is helping students and parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, please email with the details. 


  • Local public schools offering free food to children.
  • True Smoke BBQ 
    • True Smoke BBQ is teaming up with America's Best Cleaning & Restoration Services to help out families with feeding the youngsters.
    • Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Kids just need to go in and say "No school for me today" and we will hand them a lunch. 
    • Free lunch available for children ages 5-17, no questions asked. 
  • Victoria's Ristorante & Wine Bar 
    • Any child who needs a meal can come to the restaurant.
    • Free meals are: Marinara Sauce with Pasta, Meat Sauce with Pasta, and  Buttered Noodles with fresh bread
    • No questions asked. No purchase necessary. Please see the front desk upon arrival.
  • Grand Rounds Brewing
    • If you or someone you know are concerned about being able to have lunch for any child in town due to the school closure, we are offering free kids meals no other purchase necessary, stop in, ask for a manager and we will be sure to get you a lunch.
  • Casablanca Creative Cuisine & Wine
    • Offering free lunch to kids in need. 
  • Newt's
    • Offering free mac and cheese with choice of fries or applesauce to kinds in need, no questions asked. 
  • John Hardy's Bar-B-Q
    • Offering kids a free kids meal
    • Kids 12 and under, limit 3 per family per day. Pickup only, no delivery. 
    • Choose from Corn dog, mac & cheese or chicken nuggets with applesauce. 
  • Potbellly Sandwich Shop
    • Free lunch for kids while Minnesota schools are closed. Call ahead for take-out or curbside pickup. 
    • Turkey, ham or grilled cheese sandwich with applesauce and milk

  • Charter
    • Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.
  • KMTelecom 
    • Residents within its service area with K-12 or college students at home are offered free internet service. 
    • Currently, KMTelecom provides service in the following communities and the surrounding rural areas: Kasson, Mantorville, Rock Dell and Dodge Center.   • AcenTek
    • Offering free broadband and WiFi internet access until June 1, 2020, to students and teachers who do not currently have internet service with the company. 
    • AcenTek has offices located in Houston, MN, Allendale, MI and Mesick, MI

  • Xcel Energy
    • Xcel Energy will not disconnect residential customers’ electric or natural gas service until further notice.
