(ABC 6 News) - The Austin Packers football team feels "lucky" to be playing in the section tournament Tuesday night as teams around the area have their seasons end early because of COVID-19.
There are plenty of teams that won't have a postseason this year because of the pandemic. Austin is in an interesting scenario. The Packers get to play Tuesday night, but because of their shift to distance learning, it will be their last game of the season even if they win. Their athletics will be put on a hiatus starting Wednesday.
"With not being able to play the full sections, originally how it goes, it's kind of heartbreaking for those seniors that, win or lose, you're done tomorrow," Austin Head Coach Ed Schmitt said.
The Packers play Northfield Tuesday night at home at 7 pm.
