"My sons worked together since they were paper carriers and somebody had to get the paper route done,” she said.
In 2016, they made it a little more official, by starting a video game company that combined each of their unique talents.
Their company is called Noble Bros. It consists of:
"We picked that name pretty specifically because the video game industry does have a lot of bad stuff going on, a lot of immaturity and a lot of bad morals,” said Philip.
The brothers set out to develop games appropriate for all ages. Their latest release is called Spoons Buzz.
"It's such a simple idea and yet it's such a fun idea as well,” said James.
Users download the game onto their smartphones and sign up for notifications. It’s not necessarily a game that players can pick up and play whenever they feel like it.
"It's a game that you pick up when it asks you to play and then you put it down right away,” said Andrew.
When players get a buzz, they have to open the app as fast as possible to be the first person to snatch a golden spoon.
"Spoons Buzz, or the buzz genre, is really meant to tap into an audience that wants to play games but aren't able to because of the time commitments,” said Andrew.
"I spend a lot of time in front of a computer. It allows me to break up that more tedious work with a little bit of competition,” said John .
The game launched last month and already it has more than 80 users. The brothers hope it continues to grow.
"We're still developing it, we're still updating it. We've got a lot of different things we want to do with it still ,” said Thomas.
But Whalen said they’ve already done what matters most. "I'm really proud of my children for really pursuing something they believed was a possibility,” she said.
The app Spoons Buzz is available on Android and IOS.
