(ABC 6 News) - Over the past two years of the pandemic, city pools took a hit due to safety issues and staffing shortages.

The Stewartville city pool said it has made some improvements and is prepared for a full go this summer with events and new things at the park.

"The swim team is back with the local communities. We're going to have our teen swim, around the 4th of July was a big success last year," said Stewartville pool manager Jake Flynn.

This year, one of the new items at the pool is a water feature for infants and toddlers, that was donated by a local couple.

"That's the one thing we lacked around here if anything for infants. And it's like a water table where they can be creative with it. But that was a very generous donation they made," said Flynn.

After feeling the impacts of staffing shortages last summer; this summer the pool is up to full staff.

"They sent for one of our veteran guards to go get his certification to be able to teach Red Cross. The school put on a career fair and Cheryl Roeder the city clerk and I went down there and we had an in-person booth," said Flynn.

With temperatures starting to rise and the pool now open for business. Flynn is confident this will be a great summer for the pool.

"One step closer back to normal yah know we had to make adjustments the last few years. The community was understanding. Ya know, there are pros and cons to everything. This year we're back, hopefully pretty much what we used to be. Other than that it's full go every day," said Flynn.

Admission to the park is four dollars. The city wants to keep it low so many people can come out to enjoy the park. There are also some membership options for purchase.
