Unexpected passing of Austin community leader in Ethiopia

(ABC 6 News) – Austin City Council member Oballa Oballa announced the death of Chol Opiew on his social media writing, “Chol is a long time Austin resident and great leader in Sudanese and Austin community at large.” The post states Chol went back home to Ethiopia a few months ago to visit his family when he died unexpectedly.

A gofundme created for funeral expenses has surpassed $6,000 in just three hours.
