(ABC 6 News) - Voters in Mower County have selected a new District One County Commissioner in a special election Tuesday evening.
According to the Mower County Auditor's Office, unofficial results have John Mueller defeating Tim Duren, 408 to 304.
John Mueller retired in February after serving 30 years in law enforcement, 27 of those as a lieutenant for the Austin Police Department. Mueller was born and raised in Austin and plans to work with residents and business owners in the district.
Back in November, Commissioner Tim Gabrielson passed away and the board approved to hold a special election for the seat.
The special election was needed due to Gabrielson just being re-elected to another four-year term.
In February, seven individuals filed for office, John Mueller and Tim Duren were the two candidates who received the most votes in the primary election.
Mower County District 1 includes the townships of Lansing, Red Rock, Udolpho, and Waltham as well as the cities of Brownsdale, Mapleview, Waltham, and the 1st Ward, 1st Precinct of the City of Austin.
