(ABC 6 News) - A large group of people have turned out for a peaceful protest at Bandshell Community Park in Austin.
Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik told ABC 6 News that law enforcement will stand back because everyone deserves to be heard and he wants the community to do that safely.
"From the good side of law enforcement there is no color or race, it's the human race and every citizen and resident in this country and our community has the right to express their opinion in a lawful and safe manner and we absolutely support that," said Sandvik.
The protest is in response to the death of George Floyd Monday night. Floyd was pronounced dead after he was taken into custody by police in south Minneapolis. A video that was circulated online shows an officer holding his knee on the back of Floyd's neck for several minutes.
All four officers involved in the incident were fired on Tuesday and on Friday the officer seen in a viral video with his knee on Floyd's neck, Derek Chauvin, was taken into custody and is facing charges of murder and manslaughter.
